The short sci-fi film by Munich-born Nils Keller achieved unprecedented success when it won the ‘Student Oscar’ last year and subsequently made it to the Oscar shortlist in the Best Live Action Short Film category. The main character, seventeen-year-old Jacob, has been living aboard a cramped spaceship with his mother for two years. His dream of returning to planet Earth is about to come true. However, his plans are disrupted by the news of a dangerous virus that has spread on Earth. Is it safer to stay in deep space or return home? A film about coming of age and the responsibility we have for our decisions is inspired by the events of 2020, when hundreds of people were trapped on the Diamond Princess cruise ship due to the pandemic. The partner of the German Cinema section is the Czech-German Future Fund.
