What does an ordinary day on balconies look like? Does each balcony have its own personality? And how do their worlds differ from those behind them, inside the apartments? A housing estate is full of sounds, music, and small bizarre things that gradually come together to form a mosaic of a neighborhood microcosm. Do you also sometimes peek into the privacy of others? For Kazakh director Xenia Smirnov, this is a deeply personal work – she took on directing, scriptwriting, editing, and art direction. The hand-painted short film, Balconies, won the Short Tiger Award in Dresden.
