In Myanmar, the textile industry is one of the largest employers of women. The daily routine is defined by long shifts, low wages, and physical exhaustion. And yet—something begins to grow. Between two young women, something deeply intimate and private takes root, seemingly having no place in their world. Can deep feelings endure in the face of social norms and expectations? This story of forbidden love was directed by debut filmmaker, Aung Phyoe, whose direction treats characters and their subtle gestures with the same importance as the colours and tactile qualities of the mise-en-scène. The Crystal Globe winner at this year’s KVIFF was created in Czech co-production.
