A mother and son live separate lives. While Zdena (Pavla Tomicová) blends into the background of village life, her son Lukáš (Jan Cina) remains a mystery to everyone. He lives in France, and nobody knows much about him. When the two are finally set to meet to fulfill a dying grandmother's last wish, long-kept secrets begin to surface... In his new auteur film, director Šimon Holý (Mirrors in the Dark, 2021) drew not only on his own relationship with his mother, but also on his personal queer experience. As with his previous work, he involved other crew members from actors to producers in the writing process. Chica Checa premiered in the main competition category at KVIFF.
